SMTP (outbound)
SMTP is an acronym for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, and is a communication protocol used for sending and receiving email messages over the Internet.
An SMTP Transport is used to connect to a SMTP service over the internet or local network, to enable the sending of files to the remote SMTP service.
You configure the SMTP Transport with the appropriate details to allow you to do this.
The SMTP Transport can connect to either clear text SMTP services, or SSL secured SMTP services.
The SMTP server settings are configured in General Setup.

The details configured on the SMTP Transport are necessary to know where to send the email.
